For Parents

I’m a parent, mine’s a little younger.

I’ve only been a dad for a few years, but I’m constantly amazed by the innate need to give my child the best shot at life. It drives almost all that I do, and I think most parents are the same.

I’ve been a tutor a lot longer, and, over the years, I’ve worked with close to a thousand families. That same need is plain in every parent I speak to and work with. How you decide to address ACT/SAT prep is one of those tough parenting decisions where you wish you had a crystal ball because it seems like a shot in the dark. It doesn’t help that most companies pitch you on illusory prestige or the myth of secret strategies. You don’t feel like there’s a solid objective way to make this important choice.

I’ll tell you a secret about test prep and college admissions. There’s no best solution for everyone, but there is the right decision for you and your family.

We do things differently. We don’t churn out classes and cookie-cutter lessons. We don’t waste our time or yours by pretending there’s a shortcut or secret code. We’re just experts at tests who really like working with kids. Every one of our students is unique, and they all test differently. For each student to take their best test, they have to take their test. That’s my philosophy in a nutshell: treat my students the way I’d have my daughter treated and work with their individuality, don’t try to make them think like me.

We approach our job holistically. Your child is overly busy and overly stressed. We refuse to add to that stress; we fit in the flow of the student’s life by providing live online tutoring and flexible scheduling.

We want to know how the rest of our student’s life is going. We care how the softball showcase went and if they’re ready for the AP Bio test. We’re happy to talk to them about stress, time management, organization—and we try to give them some soft skills to take to college.

The college admissions scandal has given folks more insight into how college admissions are not always a meritocracy. We can’t change the system, but we can help you launch your child into adulthood in the best possible way. Because we believe that working hard and doing the right thing should be good enough.

I don’t know if we’re the right fit for you, but I’d love to talk to you. Set up a call with me, so I can get to know your student and family a bit, and, at the very least, give you some advice to help you on your journey.
